At the end of every season, the news that dominates everyone’s attention is the coaching carousel. Who is getting fired? Who is getting hired? What coaches are leaving one job for another? What will the trickle down effect be? For some coaches, they are looking to move up the ladder. For some, they are looking to get their first head-coaching job.

Today, there is a lack of job security in coaching. So in some cases, a veteran coach will go for a change of scenery in hopes of more money, more security, or a return to a place they call home or their dream job.

Whatever the situation, with the coaching change comes culture, philosophy, and tactical change. This season, there are a number of coaching moves that have piqued my interest. In the “Faces in New Places 2017” playbook, we examine 9 coaches who moved from one head-coaching job to another.

The playbook features 190 plays from both veteran and rising coaches: Brad Underwood (Oklahoma State), Bryce Drew (Vanderbilt), Chris Beard (Texas Tech), Jamie Dixon (TCU), Jerod Haase (Stanford), Josh Pastner (Georgia Tech), Kevin Stallings (Pitt), Steve Pikiell (Rutgers), and Tubby Smith (Memphis).

These coaches have combined to win over 2,000 games in their careers and over 65% of their games. Implement the man and zone sets, as well as baseline line out of bounds plays, that these coaches are utilizing to help push their new programs to higher levels of success.

We’ll see if these veterans can continue to have success at their new schools.
